He and she lived a simple life of years
in a house with shuttered windows
and a garden of roses by the back door.
But she was I and he was you and years were only
things that didn’t happen and things that did.
And the house was a palace and a prison
and an empty box, and it was all so complicated.
The windows were weary eyes that always
watched, and the door, the door was the keeper,
the releaser, the rectangle of know; behind there,
questions were born. And yellow roses grew out back,
but so did thorns, and we never knew which we would
collect. Strings of together pulling, binds of tight,
and then invisible hands to reach down
and sweep away our tangled life.
Oh the tangled threads of a shared life…
Very nice…great parallels and wonderful shot of the door…thank you

Life never seems to provide us a garden without thorns…a most thought provoking poem.
so true…and thanks
That is such a beautiful po
That is such a beautiful poem. It really reminds me of my grandparents and the legacy my grandfather left when he passed on. It described everything I think my gram is feeling in her house happy memories, sorrow and being trapped in the place that holds so many happy memories that hurt her now that he’s gone . It just really touched me. I actually cried. Beautifully done. I apologize for gushing but this just really stood out to me. 🙂
Thank you for writing such a lovely comment and for sharing the comments about your grandparents. Now the poem has even more meaning. 🙂
Awe you’re welcome and thank you 🙂 I’m happy that my comment made you feel so touched. That improves my day knowing that 🙂 have a good day!
isn’t it amazing how someone else’s poem can touch you so deeply? That’s one of the many things I find beautiful about poetry. The writer can be trying to convey one message but have someone else read it and mean something different to them. I love that 🙂
Thanks

Whoa, fantastic poem, I love, “and years were only things that didn’t happen and things that did.” This is real life.
Thanks so much for the compliments and for stopping by to read 🙂
Hello Sarah and thank you for the visit and the following. I am glad you popped over as I did not know of you, now after seeing your work, I will follow. I enjoy your style of writing, and your photography. I write poetry & sometimes I just like to have a virtual chat with my readers, but I always put what I am doing in the heading, in case you wish to give it a wide berth 🙂
Thanks…I’ll be stopping by!
Lovely!
Thank you, Dawn!
so much said, even thro’ weary eyed windows we glance and suddenly years have passed. x
so true…
This is so beautiful.
You’ve deceived me! This poem was no simple matter at all. Thank you for sharing the complications.
The pair in your poem, are they still together?
Nice one!

There’s lovely!
Love your deep and reflective thought. There should be no limit to the freedom we all so desire.
